Manual two sided scan support

Scenario: My scanner doesn't have two-sided scan support, but I have a huge stack of papers that I need both sides scanned. I'd like to be able to scan the front side (entire stack) as file one, scan the reverse side as file two, and merge.

How would you expect it to work? As a send to shortcut like the current merge feature? Or would you expect to open both files in PDF Pages and see an option to merge 1 page from each input file?

I was not expecting it to be a send to shortcut. At the most basic level, I had in mind opening two files, selecting the pages in column one as the "front" and the pages in column 2 as the "back" and then merging. Column one would be pages 1,3,5,7... and column two would be 2,4,6,8, etc. Or maybe a scanner dialog box that prompts to scan the "front" side of the stack, then the "back" side, then produces a merged file. But maybe that is best left to scanner software.
