Feature Request: Custom Page Cache Storage Location

I would like to set a custom location for the page cache created by the Boost plugin.

How

Presently: Boost creates a boots-cache directory in the wp-content directory and stores all page cache in there.

Want: I would like to be able to set a custom location for the page cache directory created by the Boost plugin; either via the admin interface, or wp-config.php.

Why: I am hosting my WordPress website on a Linux VM which has fast temporary storage. The temporary storage is limited in size, because it is part of the storage drive of the host system, but it is much faster than the persistent storage. In addition, the temporary storage is free and billable IOPs do not count towards it.

Workaround: For the time being I have created a boost-cache symlink, in wp-content, pointing to a directory on the temporary/fast drive.

This is a good feature to have, and I've added it to our backlog.

Since Boost is in maintenance mode, I can't give you a timeline of when we'll implement this.

The workaround you're using sounds like a solid approach in the meaintime.

I just want to clarify about the temporary storage, if anyone is wondering about the setup.

The temporary storage is fast because it is on the physical drive of the machine currently hosting the VM, unlike the persistent storage which network attached. It is intended for storing ephemeral system data and for caching. What makes it temporary, is that any data on it is deleted when the VM is stopped/decommissioned, because next time the VM is started it will most likely be deployed on a different host system.

In addition, the temporary storage is not included in the backup policies, and thus there is no billing cost for storing backups of cache files.
