DOI for Notebooks

I think there would be some benefits to register DOIs for the notebooks in the gallery (they are well maintained and checked, appealing, a lot of work went into them, it would give them more visibility and make them referencable for future work).
Have there been any thoughts on that so far?

DOIs are issued by Eurac
As an idea: We could also link them to the ESA open Science Catalog or other intiatives.

@przell we are discussing internally and it might be more meaningful to use SWHIDs instead of DOIs via the Software Heritage:

It seems much easier and automatically updated upon the release of new versions. Were you aware of this? What do you think? We can openly discuss about this during the next meeting

Sounds great if this is more meaningful! My main concern was to make the notebooks citeable and more prominent/official :)

In the README there's a badge that links to the Software Heritage entry.
I will soon improve the GitHub citation to reflect the one provided by Software Heritage.
