Hey everyone,
As a little sideproject i thought my PineWatch+InfiniTime should be working great as a very minimal unintrusive navigation Display while on my motorcycle. So i 3D printed a case and mounted it to my bike and with a little help from FintasticMan who build a version for me that has an always on behavior in the map view, i was indeed able to make it work.
But its not great. Having the display always on draws a lot of battery ofc and today it was rather sunny so the display was very very hard to read.
My idea would be to make several modifications to make InfiniTime a capable bike navi:
Either keep the "Always On" behavior for the map mode, or preferably parse the actual map results and activate the display when certain conditions are met. I propose:
a. Every killometer/mile (depending on display)
b. When 500m from the next turn and keeping the display on for 30 sec after the turn
The display as is, is very hard to read mounted on the handlebars of a bike/motorcycle. While a bit in shadows, the direction arrow is somewhat visible but its very hard to read. Same as 1. i propose a bit of an change in behavior here.
a. When nearing a turn or other change of direction, Flash the display with inverted colors (White/Black)
b. change the color for the distance label from green to White. Even in shade, green is not readable in daylight.
c. When 500m from the next turn, make the streetname bigger and the distance too. The direction indicator should be a lot smaller
I would love to discuss those ideas, attached my little prototype:
