Black carbon emissions generally underestimated in the global south as revealed by globally distributed measurements(Ren etal 2025)
indicates that inventories (CEDS and others) underestimate BC in the global south. However, alternative meteorological data improves this a lot (particularly for July).
Beijing is particularly off (but this could be due to proxy mapping - Beijing may be cleaner in winter than other parts of China). This may be true elsewhere as well. (if sampling sites are preferentially near cities)
TODO:
- Will want to reference this in our paper
- Consider if we need to make any improvements
- Consider if we are ok for China as a whole
