I followed the official installation steps using the tarball method from the documentation:

However, our production servers use Gentoo Linux, which relies on OpenRC/init.d instead of systemd.
Since Anubis currently doesn’t provide a Gentoo package or init.d service script, it requires a manual setup to manage the daemon, which complicates installation and maintenance.

Solution you would like.

It would be great if Anubis provided:

• A prebuilt Gentoo package (ebuild), or
• An official init.d/OpenRC script to manage the Anubis service on Gentoo systems.

This would make it easier to install, update, and manage Anubis on Gentoo-based servers.

Hi,

I don't personally run Gentoo (hence the lack of native Gentoo packaging), however you can likely get away with converting the .deb / .rpm to an ebuild. I've asked some Gentoo wizards I know for input here.

While Anubis provides a linux-amd64 build, I wanted to confirm whether this binary is expected to work on Gentoo systems, or if there are any known compatibility issues or planned native support.

The only requirements for Anubis are:

• At least 256Mi ram (you can get away with less, but can and should are different words)
• A Linux kernel capable of running binaries produced by the Go compiler version 1.24 (mostly comes down to syscalls)
• ca-certificates for some optional features
• A working network connection so that it can accept sockets and forward traffic

As long as your Gentoo system isn't running a kernel older than Rocky Linux 9, you should be good to go. However please consider using a decently modern kernel for the best experience as I don't test on anything older than Debian Stable due to a lack of time.

Anubis does ship OpenRC configuration in the git repo, however there aren't currently any packages that include this due to the lack of requests. I can attempt to include this in the tarball. OpenRC hasn't been a priority for me because all of my Linux systems use systemd.

@Xe, is there a way to change the log file path for Anubis? Currently, I don’t see an option for it in the environment variables. I also cannot see it generating log files in Gentoo

It logs to standard out so that docker, kubernetes, and systems can capture it to their logging systems. Configure OpenRC to capture from standard out.
