Would nmrs obtain TUI?

I'm very like this fresh piece of software and i would like to use it, but I'm not very satisfied with current GUI. I mean, it is not bad, it is simple and good looking, but i am a big fan of TUI.

If it would be possible, i would be very happy to contribute to TUI version of nmrs! I'm not a very strong developer, but i guess it is not a big deal to write wrapper for already existing nmrs-core.

And i also not very confident about how to release my idea of having both GUI and TUI versions of nmrs. It is probably would be better to split nmrs into different repositories like nmrs-core, nmrs-gui and nmrs-tui.

Hi, and thanks for your interest and kind words about nmrs!

I agree that the visual flare of this project leaves a lot to be desired. Truthfully, that was sort of intentional as I simply wanted something that worked and in fact, I was trying to move away from software like nmtui. I'm biased towards boring interfaces, especially with something like Network configuration, I just need it to work. I care little about how it looks (to an extent, obviously).

nmrs-core could indeed eventually be an easily available API that should let any user build any app they want. However, nmrs-core is just an abstraction over D-Bus' NetworkManager. I still want to think about how exactly to approach this. Because I've yet to see desire for Rust bindings for NM given that things like zbus already exists (which I use here). You can also take a look at something like networkmanager-rs (which I think is still under development).

At any rate: that should let you build a TUI, CLI, whatever. The question just remains whether it's worth it to expose `nmrs-core' for this.

Also @dofi4ka those commits in your fork would be a very welcome PR! I've been meaning to reduce the amount of unstable code.

I thought about this a lot and ended up doing exactly this

In the repo, we now have nmrs, the public API that provides the interface for NetworkManager over D-Bus control.

And then we have nmrs-gui, which of course is the GUI for nmrs.

Now you can simply do cargo add nmrs and build whatever you want! TUI, CLI, applet, IoT, etc!
