Exception on first run

Hi there, just wanted to test this and ran into an exception when starting the first time.

$ php artisan serve
Laravel development server started on http://localhost:8000

Any ideas? Seems like it's having trouble reading a version or something. Never done anything in Laravel before.

I have the same error. Furthermore, I can't proceed with the configuration because in my case file/folder structure differs from that mentioned in documentation:

The issue was fixed by installing Laravel.
Prerequisites: before installation make sure that the following php extensions are installed:

• OpenSSL PHP Extension
• PDO PHP Extension
• Mbstring PHP Extension
• Tokenizer PHP Extension
• XML PHP Extension

The steps are something as follows:

composer update
composer global require "laravel/installer"

However, after typing laravel you may receive the command not found error.

Fix:

export PATH="~/.composer/vendor/bin:$PATH"

After that, you should be able to install codex:

composer create-project codex/codex --stability=beta
cd codex
php artisan serve

Works on php version PHP 7.0.13-1+deb.sury.org~xenial+1
