For anyone needing this... here is a quick monkey_patch post install..

def monkey_patch_copy_paste():
    import sys

    site_packages_dir = next(p for p in sys.path if 'site-packages' in p)
    copy_paste_path = os.path.join(site_packages_dir, 'copy_paste', 'copy_paste.py')
    new_mod_path = os.path.join(site_packages_dir, 'copy_paste', 'mod.py')
    init_path = os.path.join(site_packages_dir, 'copy_paste', '__init__.py')

    if os.path.exists(copy_paste_path):
        os.rename(copy_paste_path, new_mod_path)

    with open(init_path, 'w') as f:
        f.write("from .mod import CopyPaste\n")
        f.write("__all__ = ['CopyPaste']\n")
