You can make your Linux Box a music server by running Music Assistant in a Docker container. Here are the commands you need:

1. Install Docker on your Linux Box. (This is the platform that allows you to run applications in isolated containers.)

apt install curl
curl -fsSL get.docker.com | sh

2. Run Music Assistant in a Docker container. (This downloads and starts Music Assistant, making it available on your network.)

docker run -v </path/to/data>:/data --network host -v </path/to/your/music>:/music --cap-add=DAC_READ_SEARCH --cap-add=SYS_ADMIN --security-opt apparmor:unconfined ghcr.io/music-assistant/server

⚠️ Important: Change /path/to/your/music to the actual path where your music files are stored on your Linux Box (e.g., /home/Music). do the same for /path/to/data

3. Access Music Assistant: After running this, open a web browser on another computer on the same network and go to http://<IP_OF_YOUR_LINUX_BOX>:8095 you will see:

5. Instal and run snapclient to have player on box

6. Add a player on the Linux Box. (This allows Music Assistant to send music directly to the sound card of your Linux Box.)

Inside the Music Assistant web interface (from step 2), go to Settings > Players providers.

Select and enable this player - snapcast:

Now your Linux Box is ready to stream music from Music Assistant to its own audio output via HDMI!

Dear @devmfc ,

I know this distribution is not intended for media use and the focus is on newest kernel, but as we can see, it is capable of running video #195 (including camera streams) and music.
I am aware that the status of the:
S/PDIF port and A/V port is is unclear/unsupported ("Not tested and probably won't work.")

My question is: How difficult would it be to add support for these ports to ALSA?
I am a programmer and I might be able to tackle this, so could you please give me some guidance on how to approach it?

tl;dr: I don't know, you're on your own ;-)

To be honest, my knowledge of multimedia is almost nonexistent—so I really don’t know.
As a complete noop in this area, the Linux sound and video subsystems seem overly complex. When I look at DTS and ALSA configurations, I get lost immediately. There are all kinds of components I don’t recognize, and they all need to be connected correctly somehow.

Regarding the S/PDIF and A/V ports: they should be properly configured for standard S905X3 boxes. I believe it's mostly a matter of setting up userspace correctly to enable output on these ports. But I (almost) never tested it, because I don't even have the equipment to connect to them to test 😀

S905X4 and S905W2 (Meson SC2 and S4) are a different story. For SC2, there’s no driver available. For S4, Amlogic did attempt to mainline the audio driver, and it’s included in my kernel. However, the device tree seems tailored to their reference boards—not to basic Android TV boxes. And honestly, I have no idea what the correct configuration should be, since I’m still a noop in this area.

I understand perfectly—I am also green regarding all these complexities of the Linux sound subsystem (ALSA, DTS, etc.). It’s incredibly complicated!
But huge thanks for the hint about the S905X3! Since you suggest it might be a matter of userspace configuration, there's hope for me. I actually have that box (S905X3), so I'll see if I can figure out how to configure those ports.
