WebRTC based chat implementation

Problem

Opening the issue here for visibility, but the actual implementation could be done in a separate repo under https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib.

Although we could update the Jupyter Chat documentation to link to that package when it exists.

Proposed Solution

• Implement a WebRTC based chat with jupyter-chat
• Host it in https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib ?

Additional context

Similar to https://github.com/brichet/jupyterlab-ws-chat but over WebRTC.

This would be useful to test the chat with other peers on the demo site with JupyterLite: https://jupyter-chat.readthedocs.io/en/latest/lite/lab/index.html

I agree that this should be implemented in a separate repo to avoid making the monorepo bigger.

I don't know if this is relevant, but some time ago I implemented a WebRTC chat in jupyter-collaboration (before ending in using the same chat as jupyter-ai in a separate repo).
Maybe we can get inspiration there for the WebRTC feature https://github.com/brichet/jupyter_collaboration/tree/chat_webRTC.
