[BUG] International keyboards unsupported

Current Behavior

Previously, with kasmvnc, it was no problem to use webtop with international keyboards, like the German QWERTZ layout. Now, there is no option and when typing Z on the keyboard, Y appears on webtop, similarly, most multi-key strokes (secondary level characters) stopped working, e.g., Alt Gr + Q = @ doesn't work at all.

Expected Behavior

webtop should use the keys entered by the user, not assuming ANSI QWERTY layout.

Steps To Reproduce

Use any keyboard layout that is not QWERTY on your system and observe that this is ignored in the container. There was no issue with kasmvnc-based containers.

- OS: doesn't matter (Ubuntu 24.04)
- How docker service was installed: doesn't matter (apt)

For me (and probably all international users), this means I will have to build the package myself locally from now on.

Please consider either reverting #323 (and friends) or please offer the kasmvnc based alternative via an additional tag.

-e LC_ALL let's you set the keyboard, but it also currently sets the language of the application, if it looks for that variable.

but the keyboard in still QWERTY. When I revert to a sha256 from, e.g., two weeks ago (with kasmvnc), everything is fine with the keyboard without any further changes to the docker-compose.yml. The container's language matching the corresponding country's language would be an acceptable compromise IMO.

I have integrated preview code into linuxserver/webtop:alpine-mate as a test @DL6ER can you please pull this tag and let me know if it works for you input wise?
It uses event codes and keys instead of keysyms and replicates the noVNC head logic.

If this works this will all be in the webtops shortly after I finish UI scaling and hiDPI.

Just jumping in here that I can confirm this issue exists. Using debian-xfce.

@thelamer thanks for looking into it. This iteration is certainly already some improvement but it is still not working with most non-letter/digit keys (I'm using the compose as above with alpine-mate). Consider the German keyboard layout:

From my quick testing (going from top left in the image over the digits and then down before backspace):

• Alt Gr + Q should be @ but we actually get 2
• Shift + 7 should be / but we actually get ?
• Shift + 0 should be = but we actually get +
• Alt Gr + 7 should be { but is [ (curly vs square)
• Alt Gr + 0 should be } but is ] (likewise)
• Shift + tick should be backtick but is ~
• + is actually =
• Alt Gr + + should be ~ but is backtick
• # is 3
• Shift + # should be ' but is "
• Shift + , should be ; but is :

I will just stop here, the list could be continued. The < key close to the bottom left, for instance, is doing completely crazy thing.

@DL6ER pull linuxserver/webtop:alpine-mate again and test, I specifically confirmed the entire altGR modifiers for DE.
This leverages and extensive keysym map that gets around the limitations of pyinput

Yes, it looks like the latest container works in all aspects regarding international keyboards. There is one nitpick left, that's the NumPad. Assume Num is enabled on the host. Unfortunately, it seems to start as disabled in the container. When I toggle it, I can start using the numbers inside the container but it is then disabled on the host which is very odd. Do you want me to open a new ticket for this issue?

edit Just realized that 5 never works on the NumPad, regardless of num being on or off.

Numpad is bulletproof now, I changed the behavior to translate the numlock keysyms to the standard ones selkies-project/selkies@7638d09

The bases are built for testing like lsiobase/selkies:alpine322, but webtop will not get this change until it hits a package check, or another major code change. I just burned the builds last night need to give it a minute.
