@nvdaes what is the driving force behind this feature request? Have a large number of users contacted you requesting this? |

@gerald-hartig , no user has requested this to me. It's my own opinion as a braille user. |

This issue is tricky and requires a good design to provide an acceptable UX. True that there are only some braille table but not all that support formatting reporting; I wonder in which proportion. More, when you look at User Guide, for this option, you are redirected to [Braille Formatting display](Formatting display) to understand if (and how) braille will actually report formatting or not, i.e. depending on liblouis or not, and the chosen braille table. Thus, braille attribute reporting is controlled by 3 options:
These options are not next to another and the GUI does not indicate any dependency between them (label, greying out, etc.). This makes it confusing. And will become always more when adding new braille options in the document formatting panel. Only changing the default value of the option, as suggested in the initial description, won't solve the issue. It will just hide a bit more the confusing situation and make it less likely to occur. The risk is that we just end up with a Braille "Formatting display" option that will cluter the GUI for nothing because people will keep it on "Tags" and, if ever they give a try to liblouis, there is a probability that no formatting is reported, causing them to turn back to "Tags". Note: That's just my opinion and I am not a regular braille user. |

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
NVDA can be configured to report or ignore font attributes in braille, and the available Braille tags option in the braille settings panel is more accurate than the Liblouis option. However, LibLouis is the default option, and this can produce confusions if NVDA is set to report attributes in braille in the Document formatting dialog, making users to wonder why these attributes aren't presented.
Describe the solution you'd like
Make Braille tags the default option in NVDA configuration, instead of LibLouis.
Describe alternatives you've considered
An alternative may be to disable font attributes when LibLouis is enabled, but this would be inconsistent and confusing.
Additional context
I'm working in a PR to show spelling errors in braille, and toggling this on and off, I wondered why this didn't work, until I realised that I had NVDA set to report attributes using the LibLouis option.
