Configurable permission checkboxes in ui.main

I think the permission checkboxes created in the ui.main module here should be configurable, like, we should be able to turn them off if we don't need them. Does anyone have feedback/thoughts on this?

For this you will want to copy main.js and create your own UI. I'm trying to clean out that file and make it as minimal as possible so it serves as an example, but I don't think custom applications should be controlling this UI with knobs.

Actually, I agree with you. I think ui.main needs to look more like composition of smaller parts so that it's easy to get a base annotator without permissions and identity and such.

@tilgovi any guidance on what needs to be done with ui.main to break it out into smaller parts that are easier to re-use or override? Making it more modular would hopefully also fix my permissions issue #610

Some thoughts based on some recent custom module work:

• Should ui be available in the registry, so it is easier for other modules to interact with?
• It would be nice if there was a documented way for included modules to add viewer and editor extensions. I have some modules that include viewer and/or editor extensions, which means they have to be included or configured in multiple places; it would be nice if the module could automatically add the extensions in the configure or start hook, whichever is appropriate.
