TR for deploying apps beteen development and production servers

Often I have the need to upgrade Ruby versions on my Development server and find the process of matching Production, which is then our of synch, to be a real bear sometimes.  It seem slike Traveling Ruby might be a solution for deploying to just one Production server instead of the intended many varying types of servers and OS.  Do you have any precautions for me in this endevour?
