Abnormal Chinese Display

When I choose Chinese as my display language , there are no Chinese characters showing up but some disordered and meaningless English letters to be appeared.

Please support Chinese display !

Must be OSX exclusive issue then, and therefore a problem with the game, not this addon.

Hmm, you are on MacOS. I think the issue is that your OS is missing the Helvetica font.

You could try editing this line:

gmod-lua-menu/lua/menu/custom/main.lua

Line 13 in 91a7c7c

font = "Helvetica",

And change Helvetica to some font MacOS supports, and has the Chinese characters. Arial, Arial Black, Arial Bold might be some of the fonts that work.

The issue here is that I can only see some of the texts in the game like "Achievements" and "Sandbox" and others are invisible. I thought the mainmenu.lua might be the cause but I don't know how the heck I am supposed to read that and understand...

That Helvetica fix didn't work so I would need help. I can not play this game like this.

Irrelevant details after testing on Windows.

On Linux, I tried using a bitmap font that includes glyphs for both Japanese and English characters. Any English text on the screen became pixelated (as intended by the font), while the Japanese text became empty boxes. I researched the `SetText` method, which lead me to the documentation for [Panel:SetText](https://wiki.facepunch.com/gmod/Panel:SetText). The second warning about allowed string length states that;

Label & its derivatives has hard length limit, maximum 1023 ascii characters.

The warning implies that the character encoding used for "Label & its derivatives" is ASCII, which does not support characters outside of the American English alphabet^[1]. Would that therefore make this issue unfixable? Or is the documentation incorrect?

I am also encountering this behavior with the in-game GUI (see attached screenshot).

After encountering the problem both in-game and on the main menu on Linux, I tested on Windows and saw that it worked fine. This is indeed a platform-dependent issue, and should be raised to the garrysmod-issues issue tracker. In fact, an issue already exists at Facepunch/garrysmod-issues#5284.
