Can you protect a name prefix?

Hey folks!

I'm one of the maintainers of the OpenTelemetry Ruby projects. We have a bunch of gems on RubyGems that begin with opentelemetry-. During our meeting this week, we had someone ask about whether it was possible to reserve a name prefix, so that only the OpenTelemetry authors could publish new gems that started with opentelemetry-.

Is that possible in RubyGems?

I think we've chatted about this with @simi before in the CNCF Slack, but I couldn't find the original thread, so I thought I'd create a new discussion here.

Hello @kaylareopelle. Why would be full opentelemetry- needed? Isn't intended to push community custom opentelemetry instrumentation gems in there for example? Are there currently any troubles (feel free to share on CNCF Slack if sensitive)?
