Would sponsorship help?

From what I understand the primary maintainers do not wish to continue this project, since Rails 6 includes this functionality.

That being said, there's a lot of open issues, people need a migration guide, and many people aren't able to move to Rails 6 yet, or the Rails 6 migration is made yet-worse by it being an even bigger lift due to using this gem.

If the community pulled together some (potentially ongoing) monetary sponsorship (or there was one primary sponsor) to help this gem out, would that be of benefit in getting some of these core issues addressed? I see a lot of people are struggling here and I'm thinking how to best help out.

@tibbon @patodevilla - I know this is a little late to be replying (almost 2 years..). Did you ended up migration to Rails 6? Did you use any specific guides? Anything that we can compile and share with others?
