Firefox’s native PDF annotation is extremely basic

I use Zen Browser’s built-in PDF annotation feature regularly for academic and work-related tasks, and I’ve noticed a limitation that disrupts the workflow for anyone relying on handwritten notes or sketches.

Each pen stroke becomes fixed as soon as I change color or click away. After that point, I can’t draw inside, over, or continue that stroke as part of the same drawing. This makes detailed markup—especially layered notes, diagrams, or step-by-step problem solving—unnecessarily difficult.

A few improvements would significantly enhance usability:

• Allow drawing to continue within or on top of an existing stroke without it being treated as a separate isolated object.
• Provide more flexible stroke editing or introduce a simple layer-based approach for natural handwriting.
• Improve how color changes are handled so earlier strokes remain seamlessly editable.

These changes would make Zen’s PDF annotation tool far more practical for users who do intensive in-browser document work. I’m sharing this to see whether others have the same experience and to suggest these enhancements for future updates.
