EBS snapshotVolumes works asynchronously ie. the method returns immediately after initiating a snapshot. Its observed to be successful always. The status of the snapshot progress can be tracked in AWS console. Any failed snapshot can be isolated and retriggerred from the AWS console.
Purge EBS snapshot volumes procedure is updated to include batch-processing and retry-on-failure.
