What was done

  • This ticket migrates the AWS Go SDK used in topicctl from v1 -> v2. v1 has been deprecated since July 2025. Below are some of the major changes:
    • Go SDK V2 no longer supports the session module, so there are many places where the session module has been replaced with github.com/aws/aws-sdk-go-v2/aws.Config instead.
      • The NewAdminClient under cluster.go has been updated to take a Config parameter instead of a session
      • The getAdminClient function in shared.go has been updated to take a Config parameter instead of a session
    • Upgraded github.com/segmentio/kafka-go to v0.4.49
    • Started to use github.com/segmentio/kafka-go/sasl/aws_msk_iam_v2 instead of v1
    • Updated connector.go to use the aws-sdk-go-v2 signer and also to use aws_msk_iam_v2 in kafka-go.
    • Upgraded to V2 for EC2 service in zkclient.go
  • Details of testing are in JIRA ticket
