shri3016/README.md

Hi, I’m Shriya Kamat Tarcar 👋

I’m an AI Engineer working at the intersection of AI systems and cloud native infrastructure, with a strong focus on security, observability, and production-ready platforms. I enjoy turning complex cloud native concepts into practical guidance through open source contributions, writing, and community engagement.

🧑‍💻 Open Source & CNCF Contributions

I contribute to CNCF projects through documentation improvements, bug fixes, UI enhancements, and community feedback.

➡️ Click on PR to explore it in detail

  • oauth2-proxy (PRs)
Contributed documentation improvements that were accepted, merged, and integrated into the project, helping clarify configuration, authentication flows, and production usage patterns for developers using oauth2-proxy.

  • OpenTelemetry (PR)
Provided community feedback and documentation-related suggestions to improve clarity and developer understanding of OpenTelemetry’s core concepts.

  • Podman Desktop (PR)
Contributed UI fixes by improving layout and spacing in the Resources view, ensuring correct rendering and enhancing overall usability and user experience.

  • Drasi (PR)
Implemented a CLI bug fix to handle invalid resource types gracefully in the wait command, enabling clearer error messages and preventing command hangs.

  • Cortex (PR)
Authored CNCF-aligned documentation and educational material covering Cortex usage and operational considerations, complementing and extending existing project documentation.

In addition to the contributions listed above, I have been actively involved in open source and community-driven development through structured programs and hackathons. I contributed to open source projects during Outreachy, participated in Hacktoberfest editions, and was a contributor in GirlScript Summer of Code. I have also taken part in multiple national hackathons and MLH hackathons, where I collaborated in cross-functional teams to build and ship working solutions, strengthening my experience in collaborative, open-source-first development.

✍️ Writing & Knowledge Sharing

I write about cloud native systems, security, and AI workloads on Kubernetes, focusing on real-world adoption and trade-offs.

Selected writing:

In addition to the articles listed above, I have written on a wide range of topics including authentication systems, cloud fundamentals, data science, and general technology.

Other articles:

My writing has also been published in school magazines, college magazines like the Association Of Computer Engineers Magazine and local daily newspaper Navhind Times.
More articles and recent technical writing can be found on my Medium profile.

🎤 Speaking, Workshops & Community Sessions

  • Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors (Beta)
Organized and hosted multiple beginner-friendly workshops on Git, GitHub, and open-source fundamentals, including hands-on sessions and quizzes, helping students understand version control and pathways into technical communities.

  • Open Source Career & Outreachy Panel (Live Session)
Speaker in a public live discussion on building careers through open source and global programs, sharing practical guidance on contributions and community participation.

  • Web3Conf India
Featured speaker/interviewee discussing perspectives on Web3 adoption, education, and developer pathways.

    Interview Highlight 2

  • Machine Learning & AI Workshops
Delivered sessions on machine learning fundamentals, hands-on projects, and practical tools used in AI and GenAI workflows, focused on real-world application and beginner accessibility.

🌱 Community Involvement

I actively participate in cloud native and open source communities through discussion forums, project channels, mentorship programs, and contributor spaces. My community engagement includes both CNCF-focused projects and broader open source ecosystems.

CNCF & Cloud Native Communities:

  • CNCF
  • Kubernetes
  • Podman Desktop
  • oauth2-proxy
  • Drasi
  • Cortex
  • OpenTelemetry
  • Cloud Custodian
  • Pulumi

Open Source & Community Programs:

  • Outreachy
  • Wikimedia Foundation
  • Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOTOSM)
  • Oppia
  • GirlScript
  • OutSystems

Through these communities, I engage in discussions, contribute to documentation and code, support other contributors, and continuously learn from maintainers and practitioners across different stages of the open source ecosystem.

💼 Professional Experience

  • Currently working on GenAI and automation systems including resume scoring, document intelligence (OCR, PDF-to-Excel), and internal AI platforms, with a focus on scalable, secure, and production-ready solutions.

Previously

  • Data Analyst — JioSaavn
Worked on large-scale data analysis using Python and SQL, supporting insights for podcasts, music research, editorial, and subscription teams.

  • Outreachy Fellow — Wikimedia Foundation
Selected as 1 of 7 fellows globally (≈6% acceptance rate) through the Outreachy open-source contribution period. Contributed to open source by performing qualitative and quantitative analysis for the Multilingual Wikipedia Editor Survey, documenting insights and recommendations to support editor engagement.

  • Data Science for Social Good Fellow — University of Warwick (UK)
Selected as 1 of 15 fellows globally. Built predictive models to estimate energy efficiency for 660K+ residential properties in collaboration with public-sector partners.
