Setting up the build environment is required before you can start compiling your own firmware. As stated earlier in the class, only OS X and Linux are officially supported by the PX4 project. While I have not tested, I suspect that a VMware image (free from Stanford) of Ubuntu should work for Windows users, but if in doubt, set up a dual-boot so that you can run Ubuntu natively.

(For those on Mac, let me know if you have issues. My dev environment was setup up before this became the normal way to install the toolchain so I have not tested the new methodology)
